Potential New Members

Welcome to OU! You are about to jump into one of the most exciting times of your life! Going to college is all about meeting new people and experiencing new things. What could help you to do that more than joining a sorority! Joining a sorority is an amazing experience that will make your college life so much more fulfilling. It will provide you with opportunities for leadership, community service, campus involvement, academic excellence, and sisterhood. A sorority will also provide you with a support system and a family away from home.

Being an Alpha Gam will give you every opportunity to make the most out of your college experience. Alpha Gam will provide you with fun opportunities like date parties, philanthropy events, sisterhood events, living in our beautiful house and a lifelong sisterhood. Our women are involved all over campus and in the community and are a dynamic part of our campus. As an Alpha Gam, you will never be at a loss for something to do or a sister to hang out with. My sisters in Alpha Gam have truly become my family and being an Alpha Gam has been one of the best experiences of my life.

Formal Recruitment is conducted before the start of fall semester, and consists of events that allow potential members the opportunity to learn about each sorority at OU. It is important to recognize that formal recruitment is a selection process. All women will visit every sorority during the first round (Open House), but the remaining rounds are by invitation only. Just as the sororities are narrowing down the number of women attending each round of events, potential members may only accept a certain number of invitations to each round. Recruitment is a wonderful and exciting time full of meeting new people, discovering OU, and finding the sorority that is right for you. I encourage you to explore our website and find our more about Alpha Gam!  Most importantly, I could see myself being in the Alpha Gamma Delta houseand not having to feel like I was expected to dress, act, or speak in acertain way; it felt like HOME.”

Pledging

Alpha Gamma Delta’s New Member program is a time of learning and growing, but mostly fun. There are New Member meetings each week where Fraternity Education is taught, so everyone knows the history and internal workings of Alpha Gamma Delta. There are many different activities offered to help the New Members get to know older members, including a night out at the drive-in and a progressive dessert night called Sweet and Greet. A special program unique to Alpha Gamma Delta is the Sister- Mother/ Sister- Daughter program. Each new member will be assigned a Sister-Mother who acts as a guide and mentor throughout their new member program and well into their life as a member of Alpha Gamma Delta. Unique to Upsilon Chapter is the Nutty Buddy system. Every two weeks a new member is paired with an older member who is in charge of helping them get to know the University of Oklahoma, introducing them to other sisters, and making sure the new member is adjusting well to college life. The New Member period in Alpha Gamma Delta truly is a special time, and it only gets better after each new member is initiated!
